Music and Islam have long been the talk of the people of the country in recent years. Many Indonesian musicians 'hang up their guitars' and then leave music and get serious about Islam. This phenomenon is known to the public as 'hijra'.
Some of them think that music is not in accordance with religious law and strongly believe that music can cause bad actions for those who do it. Therefore, those who believe 'music is haram' have left it completely and until now have chosen to study the science of Islam in depth.
In Islam in Indonesia, until now the law of using music for proselytizing is still a controversy even though it has been done a lot.
Lately, many musicians have moved on and abandoned music. The following article talks about 5 musicians who abandoned music and chose to explore religion. Who are they?
- Yuki
The man whose full name is Yuki Arifin Martawidjaja is known to have hijra not long ago. Initially last May, photos of Yuki cleaning the windows of the mosque caused an uproar among netizens. From there, it was known that Yuki was indeed studying Islam in depth with his old friends.
In an interview, Yuki admitted that he had been very sorry why he hadn't studied Islam in the past. As a public figure, senior rocker of the 90s, Yuki feels sinful to have set many bad examples to his fans. That reason is what solidifies Yuki to emigrate.
"All the things that men do, I've been working on. If you want to find an essential path of happiness, this is the answer," said Yuki.
But Yuki admitted that he did not stop making music and would still work with the Pas Band, which was like his own family. In the near future, the man who is almost the head of five wants to give his fans an understanding of what the importance of worship means and remember God in living life.
- Ucay
Ucay is also known to hijra and stop making music. The former Rocket Rockers frontman has been upset about making music since his band was often invited to perform at nightclubs. Ucay is increasingly anxious to see many people drunk and ignorant of religious teachings.
"I feel that my activities (playing music) are starting to collide with my religion, which is Islam," said the man whose full name is Noor Al-Kautsar.
- Salman Al Jugjawy
The figure of Sakti musician Ari Seno or formerly known as Sakti has rarely been seen appearing on TV since deciding to leave the band Sheila On 7. Since leaving from SO7 in 2006, he changed his name to Salman Al Jugjawy. His appearance also changed along with his decision to deepen his religious knowledge.
Even so, he didn't really abandon music. In 2010 Salman Al Jugjawy released a religious album titled 'Save' under his own label called Al Jugjawy Records. Three years later he issued another religious album titled 'Islam Is Beautiful'.
Salman now lives in Jogja and does not stop making friendships with musician friends. Now he has two fairly successful businesses.
Salman created a Muslim fashion and accessory store that he nicknamed 'End Time Distro' called aljugjawy.co. While his second business is an online bookstore called salmanlibrary. He manages both of his own businesses from his home in Jogja and is very active in doing promos on Instagram social media.
- Ombat Nasuition
M Hariadi Nasution or known as Ombat Nasution is also known to hijra and explore the teachings of the Islamic religion. But Ombat didn't stop making music with his metal band, Skull. Ombat and Skull chose music as a medium for conveying their message about religion.
In addition to still working with Skull, Ombat is now also a Managing Partner of MHN Law Firm, Chairman of the Indonesian Muslim Legal Aid Institute (LBHMI), and Chairman of the Governing Body of PUSHAMI (Indonesian Muslim Rights Center).
- Derry Solomon
The name Deri Guswan Pramona used to be known as a guitarist of the thrash metal band Betrayer. But a complete change occurred in him, until he finally became a preacher and changed his name to Derry Solomon.
But his hijra Derry did not make him necessarily forbid music. The man who opted out of Betrayer in 1998 still loves music and instead makes it a medium for Islamic proselytizing.
"My proselytizing is different from the famous dai. Their knowledge from pesantren, the knowledge is farther than mine. I was more on the street than in the mosque. My proselytizing is more to invite people to go to the mosque. If you meet metal friends, you always say music can be metal, prayers can't stay," Derry said.
Here are people who are willing to abandon their hobby of music in order to choose to study agma more deeply. What do you think about the person above?
