Entering the end of the year, it will not be long before we will find sayings and writings "merry christmas" or what means merry christmas. And usually this moment is juxtaposed with new year wishes.
With the celebration This is often the mission of Christianization carried out, starting from the division of groceries, invitations for Christmas celebrations, and recommendations to congratulate Christmas Day itself. Even to the point of alluding to tolerance and Harmony if it reaches among Muslims there are those who are reluctant to take part in it.
But to know How the law says merry Christmas or celebrates it, we need referring to the Qur'an and Hadith as well as the opinions of competent Scholars in berfatwa.
First; Congratulating Christmas and Celebrating Christmas
Give Merry Christmas or congratulating the pagan feast (in religion) is something which is forbidden by agreement of the scholars (read : ijma' the muslims), as stated by Ibnul Qoyyim rahimahullah in his book 'Ahkamu Ahlidz Dzimmah'. He rahimahullah says:
"As for congratulating shi'ar-shi'ar a special squalor for infidels (such as pronouncing Merry Christmas, pen) is something forbidden under the ijma' (agreement) of the muslims. An example is congratulating their feast and fasting days are like saying, 'May this day be whose blessings are to thee', or with congratulations on their great day and sort of." If indeed the person who said this can survive paganism, but he will not escape the forbidden cause. Greeting them on the holidays is tantamount to us congratulating for the prostration they performed on the cross, even deeds like this are more great was his sin on God's side. This kind of congratulations is more hated by God rather than someone congratulates the one who drinks hard, soul-killing, adulterous, or congratulating others.
From the above, then we can Catch that congratulating the feast of the heathen is something which is forbidden. The reason, when pronouncing like this means someone It agreed and agreed with the Shi'ar of the squalor they did. Even though maybe someone isn't familiar with the futility itself, but still It is not permissible for a Muslim to ridho against sy'iar kekufuran or congratulate other shi'ar of paganism because of Allah Ta'ala Alone is not meridhoi of that. Allah Ta'ala said,
"If you are an infidel then indeed God does not need your (faith) and He does not profess paganism for his servant; and if ye are grateful, he will undoubtedly give you your pleasure it." (QS. Az Zumar [39] : 7).
Allah Ta'ala also said,
وَرَضِيتُ لَكُمُ الْإِسْلَامَ دِينًا
"and have ku-ridhai islam it so religion to you." (QS. Al Maidah [5] : 3)
As for a Muslim fulfilling the invitation the celebration of their feast day, then this is forbidden. By deed this kind of thing is certainly worse than just congratulating to their feast day. Attending their celebration could also be shows that we are in association in holding the celebration.
Second; How the Law Resembles People Christianity in Christmas.
Similarly, it is forbidden for the people Muslims resemble infidels by having a Christmas party, or exchange gifts (gifts), or distribute sweets or food (which symbolized by 'Santa Claus' in red-and-white uniform, then handing out gifts, pens) or intentionally covering work (because it coincides With Christmas Day). The reason, the Prophet sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam said,
مَنْ تَشَبَّهَ بِقَوْمٍ فَهُوَ مِنْهُمْ
"Whosoever resembles a kindred, then he belongs to them" (HR. Ahmad and Abu Dawud. Shaikhul Islam in Iqtidho' says that sanad hadith is jayid/good)
Shaikhul Islam Ibn Taimiyah in his book Iqtidho' Ash Shirothil Mustaqim says,
"Resembling a pagan in part their feast day can cause their hearts to feel good for the greatness that they do. It could be that it will bring benefits to them for this means giving them the opportunity to insult the people muslimin." -Thus said Shaikhul Islam-
Whoever does some of the this is why he sinned, either for the reason of wanting to be friendly with them, wanting to binding friendship, or out of shame or other cause. Deeds such as this includes face seeking (fawning), but it is the religion of God that is the victim. Ini will also cause the hearts of the infidels to get stronger and they will be stronger and more proud of their religion.
It is God where we ask. May Allah glorify the muslims with their religion. May Allah grant us keistiqomahan in this religion. May Allah helping the Muslims over their enemies. Verily He is the Supreme One Strong again Most Noble. Wallahu a'lam bis shawab!
