BRAILLE WORKSHOP WITH THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED

Alhamdulillahirabbil’alamin, on Thursday, 13 June 2024 a workshop was held; Learning Braille with the Blind at STIQ Isy Karima. This workshop was held by STIQ Isy Karima in order to fulfil the Micro Teaching course assignment. This activity was attended by all 6th semester students of STIQ Isy Karima. Drs. Murdianto, S.Kom., M.Pd.I. as the Micro Teaching course lecturer said in his speech that this workshop can be said to be unique because students can learn directly with blind teachers, it is hoped that students can take as much istifadah as possible from the speaker.

The material was presented by Mr Agus Santoso, founder of Rumah Hebat Fathonah, Karanganyar, Central Java. He brought 3 assistants who are also visually impaired, namely Mas Fahri, Mbak Selfi, and Mbak Untari. The workshop took place in 3 sessions from 08.00 – 12.00 WIB. In the first session, the speaker introduced Latin letters and hijaiyyah Braille to the students. Then, students had the opportunity to learn and practice writing Latin letters and hijaiyyah Braille directly in the 2nd and 3rd sessions.

Alhamdulillah, we learnt a lot from this workshop. In addition to gaining experience, we also realised the perfection of the blessings given by Allah to His servants. Behind one’s shortcomings, there are other gifts and privileges given by Allah. We learnt this from our speaker who has a blind background, but can still do normal activities even more than other people.

Biidznillah, the event went smoothly. Before the event was closed, the speaker gave questions to test students’ understanding. Mr Agus Santoso also gave a message to students to be grateful and continue to be enthusiastic about learning because nothing is difficult if we have tried hard.
